Romana and her two sisters experienced foster care twice in their childhood. She recalls her parents struggle with alcoholism. The first placement in care came while her parents worked hard to get the help they needed. A few years later, Romana was able to return to them and things were pretty good for a couple of years. Unfortunately, during the end of her junior year in high school, they both got to such a low place, which led her to report them. While she emancipated at the age of 18, her sisters foster parents were granted legal guardianship. Romana works hard to continue to pursue higher education and strive to be the role model for her sisters that she knows they deserve.
