Melvin is a bright and energetic young boy who loves to move, imagine, and learn, but his life is shaped by heavy challenges far beyond his age. He lives with his mother, who is a single parent expecting another baby, and her inability to work has caused extreme financial strain. With five children already in the home and their father recently incarcerated, Melvin often experiences instability and emotional stress, even though he rarely shows it. Instead of expressing worry, he pours his feelings into active play, creative learning, and finding joy in simple things like math games with rocks and sticks. His teachers admire how he remains cheerful and curious, even when there may not be enough resources at home. Despite the hardship around him, Melvin continues to be loving, playful, and imaginative, showing a resilience that reveals both his strength and his need for support.

A scooter would make a perfect gift for Melvin because he loves riding bikes and being active outdoors. He enjoys spending time outside with his older brother, but he currently doesn’t have any riding toys. A scooter would help him develop balance, burn off energy, and stay engaged in physical activity. Melvin has been diagnosed with ADHD, and his mother believes that having something he enjoys will help him stay active and focused.
