A class ring is a cherished emblem that commemorates a student's graduation. It represents the pride you have in the institution that helped shape you as an academic and shapes your values as a member of your community. Class rings are a symbol of the years of hard work and dedication you put forth to obtain a degree. Wearing a class ring fills you with a sense of pride for all of your accomplishments over the course of those difficult college years. Having a class ring would mean the world to me. I would be able to look down at it every day and think about all of the amazing memories I created at UCLA. It would be a constant reminder that anything is possible when you work hard enough for it. As a part of the small 3% of foster youth who even get a degree, I would feel an additional sense of pride in bearing such an important symbol. It is a privilege and an honor that I simply cannot afford. But with your help, I would no longer be kept from this opportunity afforded to many of my peers by their parents. Thank you so much.
Angelique is 32 years old and lives in CA
Angelique loves spending time with her friends and family. Having long in depth conversations with her closest friends about their views on everything from education to ethics and how they plan on raising their children. These are the conversations that fuel her soul. Angelique also loves pretty much any outdoor activity, especially hiking, camping, and skiing. Not to mention her love of reading and karaoke. When asked about her goals in life Angelique stated: "After I graduate from UCLA next month I would like to go on a six month service trip in South America then come back and work with an organization like Alliance for Children's Rights while I am applying to law school. My long term goals are to work on education and child welfare policy as well as travel the world. I would not be where I am at if it were not for those amazing individuals who reached out and offered me a helping hand when I needed it most. No one can make it alone in this world. So I would like to be that person for someone else. I want to reach back and offer a helping hand to as many people in need that I can. That is why I am interested in policy work where I can use my experiences to help shape and improve the way we educate and take care of the disadvantaged youth of this country."
