Mealani has been using iPad minis during her speech therapy sessions. She is able to navigate 4-6 cells on the iPad mini using TouchChat 90% of the time to communicate what toy she would like to play with. She has recently used the iPad to express feelings and was able to say she was happy. She has been a quick learner using TouchChat for communication and with it, she will be able to communicate her wants and needs with staff members.
Mealani is 12 years old and lives in NJ
Mealani is a stunning girl whose winning personality and expressive eyes captivate everybody she meets. She loves to use her mechanical wheelchair and assert her independence, listen to music, watch movies, participate in arts and crafts, and attend school. Mealani has learned sign language, and is learning to read and write. She loves to go to the library and participate in story-time. Mealani recently had the lead in her school play as Dorothy from the the Wizard of Oz and she is a natural star! Mealani has been in the foster care system since 2013, and she has resided in a long term specialized care facility since her initial placement. Mealani would thrive in a home setting, and her team is looking for an adoptive home for her.
