A jogging stroller big enough to hold Charlotte who has special needs and loves being outside

Posted Sep 5, 2017
Charlotte's new family is very active, often taking Charlotte on trips to parks and special events in the area. However, Charlotte has limited walking abilities and tires easily due to many disabilities and challenges she has faced since birth. If Charlotte had a jogging stroller big enough to carry her, she would get to attend more outdoor events in rural, rugged areas that are not conducive to her wheelchair.

Charlotte is 22 years old and lives in IN

Charlotte was born with numerous, profound disabilities. She is partially blind and has very limited hearing, even with use of hearing aids. Abandoned by her father, Charlotte's mother devoted her life to caring for her and loved her dearly. When her mother went into the hospital for an operation and in-patient rehabilitation in late 2015, no one in the family would agree to care for Charlotte. She was placed in residential care at Damar in Indianapolis. Throughout 2016, Advocates for Children and the Department of Child Services worked to help the mother overcome her physical and emotional difficulties in order to bring Charlotte home. When a Trial Home Visit was ready to begin, Charlotte's mother was found dead of natural causes at her home. Neither Charlotte's brother nor any of her many aunts and uncles ever visited Charlotte at Damar, and after her mother’s death, no one was open to any involvement. So, she stayed at Damar, in a unit with other disabled children where the noise and confusion of staff trying to deal with the constant meltdowns of the other children kept her constantly upset. Finally, in July 2017, a placement was found for Charlotte in a loving home near Richmond. The foster parents have two other special needs children in the home, one of whom is a 13-year-old girl they adopted at the age of 6 months. For the first time in more than two years, Charlotte has a loving home, where she is cared for, held, and nurtured. The foster parents are considering adoption.
