Imani's has been a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for the past five years. Her Big Sister feels truly honored to have watched a sweet, quiet, shy 8-year old blossom into a goofy, kind, outgoing 13-year old. Their relationship has changed and grown so beautifully through the years. Their time together has evolved from sitting in and doing more home-based things to going out and exploring the city. In the last two years or so she has developed a love for the Japanese and Chinese cultures and they spend a great deal of time in Chinatown trying different food and checking out all the shops. Imani also loves pizza and pop tarts. They have also spent much time trying to find the best pizza in the city. Imani not only likes to eat out but she likes to cook and bake, due to her love of pop tarts, she and her Big Sister once made a pop tart inspired cake, it was tons of fun and surprisingly good! One of Imani's most beautiful traits is her compassion. She has expressed to her Big Sister that she is uncertain of exactly what she wants to be when she grows up but she knows she wants to help others. Imani loves going to Chinatown with her Big Sister and has become especially interested in art. Imani lives with her father and his girlfriend, who are elderly and homebound, so being able to go on outings with her Big Sister is a special treat for her.
