Cooking supplies for Diana who has found a passion for healthy meals

Posted Feb 19, 2018
Diana has been learning about nutrition. Under a doctor's supervision she has lost 30 pounds in the last year and now knows that she is lactose intolerant. She would like a dairy-free cookbook for kids and some basic tools for making delicious, healthy food.

Diana is 18 years old and lives in CA

Diana is a remarkably resilient young lady with a great sense of humor. She is very pleasant, articulate and fun-loving. She is especially social with adults and very young children, often befriending little kids who “remind her” of one of her brothers or sisters. She talks to other hikers, freely sharing advice and stories she thinks will interest them. Diana is incredibly observant, noticing interesting details about the environment, people and things. She has a great memory for things that interest her and shows curiosity about the world around her. Diana tells me that she wants to be a preschool teacher. She enjoys art, swimming, biking, country music, volleyball, babysitting, funny movies and shopping. She likes books about arts and crafts, crime/detective stories and mysteries.

"Thanks, T. Diana and I drove about 45 minutes in the driving rain to do our shopping. She was very excited as she selected her new cooking equipment. We decided to concentrate on what she needs to prepare and pack salads for her school lunches. It was great to see her work with her budget and come up with a very useful set of tools. Diana bought knives, Tupperware, a cool set of sporks, a nice water bottle, and fancy measuring cups and spoons. On the way home she opened and examined each of her new treasures and talked about how she will use them all. It was a great day for both of us. Thanks again for your generosity. Margie"

"Here is a short thank you note from Diana. Although she is in the 6th grade, Diana is dyslexic and has only recently started to receive the extra help she needs. She is clever (note how she used "O.S.W." instead of writing out "One Simple Wish") but reading and writing will probably always be a challenge. Thanks again for your support. Margie"

"You're welcome. What Margie, you and the many people associated with CASA do for these children is important for them and I'm happy to have helped Diana in some small way. Her handwritten note touched me so much especially knowing more about her challenges. I wish her continued success to grow into the young adult who cares to continue to learn about nutrition and can one day teach about it as she strives to achieve her goal of becoming a preschool teacher. -- "T""
