Astride is a shining example of resilience, and the will to survive. She was brought to this country after losing her family to genocide. Upon her arrival here, speaking no English, she was placed in the foster care system and immediately began attending a local high school. She picked up English quickly (she speaks 5 languages) and within two years graduated as valedictorian of her class! She immediately began junior college and finished in two years, and then progressed on to the local university where she will graduate in May with a degree in accounting. Again, she is graduating at the top of her class! She has accepted a job as an auditor with a large accounting firm and will start her career in May. She also aspires to attend graduate school at some point. Astride is the hardest working young person we have had the honor to work with. She believes that if she works hard enough, she can accomplish anything, and she is proving that to be true! Since her arrival in the US she has been involved in many school and social activities and strives to constantly make herself better. It has been a blessing to know her and to watch her overcome unbelievable obstacles with a smile on her face all the time! We are excited to watch her continue to succeed in the world!
