Give Alexander the chance to play in a Basketball Tournament at Camp Felix!
Posted May 1, 2019
For 4 weeks in August 2019, 150 to 200 children from the NYC foster care system will be given the chance to leave behind their difficult circumstances to explore the natural world, gain independence and make exciting memories at Camp Felix in Putnam Valley, New York, about an hour north of New York City. For our children, whose home lives are so unstable, Camp Felix is more than a place to run and play. It is a second family to the youth we serve, whose lives are often in disarray. Each day, campers attend a “Sports and Games” period, which is led by a Sports Instructor who is a certified Physical Education teacher. During this time, they participate in a variety of sports, including Basketball, and have the chance to improve their skills. During an “Electives” period, the children get to return to any activity of their choice so they can hone skills or try something completely new. One of our beloved Camp Felix traditions is a Basketball tournament that the campers look forward to every summer. Many of the campers use their elective period to practice and build their stamina for the big game! The game can get competitive but everyone enjoys playing for the love of the game and being side by side with their friends and counselors. Please help us provide the resources to continue the daily sports instruction for a New York City child in foster care like Alexander.
