Daily Swimming Lessons and Goggles for Lamaya who loves the water
Posted Apr 23, 2019
For 4 weeks in August 2019, 150 to 200 children from the NYC foster care system will be given the chance to leave behind their difficult circumstances to explore the natural world, gain independence and make exciting memories at Camp Felix in Putnam Valley, New York, about an hour north of New York City. For our children, whose home lives are so unstable, Camp Felix is more than a place to run and play. It is a second family to the youth we serve, whose lives are often in disarray. At Camp Felix, all campers receive daily swim instruction (usually our campers’ favorite activity). The majority of our campers come to us as non-swimmers. As the campers improve their swim skills they move up from “starfish” (non-swimmers) to “dolphins” and eventually “sharks,” which allows them to swim in the deepest portion of the pool. Our campers not only build swim skills, they also build self-confidence through this process and are happy to share their accomplishments with their friends, families and camp visitors. Please help us provide this inspiring opportunity for Lamaya!
