Supplies to make Graduation Stoles for Kaysie who started Sew EdUcated

Posted Apr 25, 2019
When googling Foster Care Statistics Kaysie noticed that less then 3% of Foster Children graduate from college with their degree. Being tired of such negative statistics attached to children affected by foster care Kaysie decided to start a program called Sew EdUcated. Sew EdUcated was designed to bring awareness to this issue through using Kaysie's craft in hopes to change this statistic in the future and to celebrate the success of alumni from foster care graduating from college. In her efforts to bring awareness, Kaysie creates stoles for those who are receiving their degree and sends them to be worn during their graduation ceremonies. This wish will supply Kaysie with the necessary supplies to be able to create a stole for a deserving Foster Youth.

Kaysie is 32 years old and lives in NJ

From Kaysie "I am a current student at Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work graduating this May with my Masters Degree. My likes include sewing as a hobby, riding my PCX 150 scooter, planning events and hanging out with friends and family. My interests include advocacy when it come to child welfare issues to help make changes not only with programs and policy but with young people in and from foster care as well. I started Sew EdUcated because when you google foster care statistics there are only negative statistics that come up in the results. One that really stuck out to me was, less than 3% of young people that age of foster care graduate with their college degree. I always knew of this statistic and was very proud when I graduated with my Bachelors Degree to say that I defeated the odds and was apart of the "less than 3". Then I realized that less than 3 % isn't enough when more than 30,000 young people age out of foster care every year and only 900 of them will go on to graduate from college. Less than 3% is such a negative statistic and I was tired of always having to beat the odds instead of being apart of a positive statistic. I created Sew EdUcated to bring awareness to this issue through using my craft in hopes to change this statistic in the future and to celebrate the success of alumni from foster care graduating from college."
