Send Wilbert to camp to spend time with his siblings

Posted Jun 14, 2019
When Wilbert and his siblings were all in state care, they attended Camp to Belong, a camp designed specifically to bring siblings who are separated by foster care together. Now that they are adopted, their single father is responsible for the tuition and does not have the resources to make it happen. Their father states, "My sons have greatly enjoyed the camp experience in their previous years, finding it to be the one time of the year they actually get to live with their other siblings, who are still in state custody. No matter the season the boys are always talking about their experience or asking me how far away until it begins again. The week long camp program is easily their most eagerly anticipated week of the year. I am a single parent who works upward of 60 hours a week to afford our apartment. My sons had to make some sacrifices regarding activities, such as sports and recreational programs and when I was informed I had financial obligation for the camp tuition I was heart broken, as I feared I would have to pass on this activity for them as well. My boys are confined to the home for the summer as I work grueling hours, and this camp helps me tremendously by alleviating the guilt I have knowing my boys are missing out on such a possibility. With this program, I can say they at least have something to look forward to in the summer." Wish #1 of 2

Wilbert is 17 years old and lives in MA

Wilbert has several siblings and all have been in foster care for quite some time. Fortunately, Wilbert and his brother were recently adopted by a single dad, who while struggling to give the boys all the material things he would like to, is providing a loving and stable permanent home for them. However, they are still separated from other siblings, and in particular one sister who is close in age to them. Wilbert is younger than Wilson but one year older than his sister who is in a different home. Wilbert is always smiley, amazingly cheerful and positive despite the tough life he lived. He always managed to hold onto his unbiased love for everyone and things, loves animals. He is the first one in a group that would go over and introduce himself and the rest of the people. Making friends comes easy for him and anytime somebody is having a hard time he feels obligated to cheer them up. Like his brother, he loves basketball and anything athletic.
