Life Skills Seminar for Cailin to attend while at Camp To Belong

Posted Jun 14, 2019
Cailin lives in a rural part of Maine and doesn't have access to the resources and skills that urban area teens have. She has been asking her social worker and foster family to be connected to a sibling she's separated from, as well as access to support services and a peer community so that she can start thinking about life after foster care. This wish will fund her participation in a Life Skills Seminar during a summer camp that will also reunite her with her sibling. Life Skills Seminar will bring in alumni foster care from around the state, provide all supplies needed, and leave Cailin with ideas and resources that she can access anytime after camp.

Cailin is 18 years old and lives in ME

Cailin is a generous, caring older sister who's separated from her siblings as a result of geographically diverse foster care placements. Cailin lives in a beautiful part of Maine, but it's a rural location so she does not have access to some of the resource sharing and services that other teens in more populated areas have.

Cailin receives the gift from Camp to Belong Maine!

"Dear awesome person, thank you so much for granting this wish for Cailan! Our volunteer team is meeting with her and her siblings this month to prepare for the camp week. We'll be talking about what every day will look like, and will also review what she wants to learn most during the life skills seminar that you have made possible with your donation! We will also review a packing list. If she doesn't own something on the list, our staff will quietly note color preferences, sizing, etc. and purchase the missing items (a sleeping bag, a bathing suit, etc) and have them waiting for her on her bunk bed when she arrives. Part of the camp experience is lots of photo taking, so that Cailan and her siblings can make and take home albums as an end-of-camp activity. While most of the photos aren't publicly shareable due to privacy, please feel free to find Camp To Belong Maine on Facebook after August because we will share the photos that we can, on our Facebook page!"
