Airfare to Florida for Brittany to take the next steps in legal guardianship of her sister

Posted Jul 16, 2019
From Brittany:“About a month ago I found out that my bio mom was incarcerated and my 9 year old sister, Abigail, is in foster care. I am seeking placement of her with me in California through what's referred to as the ICPC process. I need to visit and start establishing in-person contacts as I've never been able to physically see her. I didn't have an address for over 5 years due to a lot of my mom's mental health issues and being very elusive. She is in Florida foster care, and I am in contact with her caseworkers, court appointed advocate and foster mom. And so I need to be able to go to Florida as soon as possible.”

Brittany is 32 years old and lives in CA

Brittany works full time and attends school at CSU Long Beach. She is proud to be an advocate for self awareness and constantly uses that as a reminder to serve with compassion. Brittany has her Associate’s Degree and her Associate Teaching Certification from Los Angeles City College, something that seemed impossible at one point is now one of her greatest achievements. She is a homeless survivor and a Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies Major. As much as she believes the system is in desperate need of radical and transformational work, she attributes foster care to saving her life and she is forever grateful and appreciative for the lessons and experiences that have come from being a part of the child welfare system. Brittany is determined to show her baby sister that these things are achievable and that foster care can be an asset and not an affliction.
