Room Decorations for Rachel who wants to feel comfortable in her group home

Posted Oct 12, 2021
Rachel is residing in a group home and would like to decorate her room to make it her own. She is looking to personalize her items in an effort to feel more comfortable in her current living environment. She feels like she has been shuffled around all her life, so she's never really felt settled in one place. Being able to decorate her room will bring Rachel peace and comfort during this chapter of her life.

Rachel is 20 years old and lives in NJ

Rachel is currently residing in a group home. She was born in an orphanage in China then privately adopted when she was around two years old, at which time she came to the US. She has experienced numerous out of home placements since she was around seven years old. Her adoptive parents surrendered their rights when she was 14, after she spent several years in out of home placements. She was then placed with several adoptive families through DCP&P but ultimately was not adopted. She is now working with the Division with a goal of independent living. She has mental health challenges but is addressing them as best she can. Currently her support system consists of mostly formal service providers and school. Rachel is a friendly, social teen who plans to graduate high school in June 2022. She is motivated to be independent and wants to engage in normal adolescent experiences such as her school trip and decorating her room in her program.
