Housing Supplies for April to attend the Foster Youth Internship Program in Washington DC

April is a student who was accepted into CCAI’s 2022 Foster Youth Internship Program in Washington, D.C. For 20 years, the FYI Program has been a highly esteemed, life-changing youth empowerment program for young adults who have spent their formative years in the U.S. foster care system. The program offers Foster Youth Interns the opportunity to intern in a congressional office and become published authors of a federal child welfare policy report. To help make this program an impactful experience for the interns, CCAI provides full service, wrap-around care throughout the internship. April needs essential dorm housing supplies such as bedding, toiletries, plates, utensils, cooking supplies, and detergent in addition to other miscellaneous living supplies, and will deeply appreciate this support!
April is 28 years old and lives in NJ
April is currently studying Political Science and Legal Studies at Rutgers University – Newark. They plan to obtain a dual JD/PhD and become a civil rights attorney. April is most proud of their extracurricular work including being involved in multiple collegiate student governments where they have advocated for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. They have done a wide array of advocacy work regarding foster care reform. They have assisted in writing legislation and policy to create change, pushed for access to resources for former and current foster youth in under-serviced areas, and helped design and ensure direct cash aid assistance to foster youth during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also a proud former foster youth and are dedicated to helping others achieve a higher quality of life.
