About Cameron

Cameron is 19 years old and lives in NJ

Cameron has suffered a series of crushing losses for such a young man. His father died when he was very young, and his mother struggled to care for him due to her own life challenges, so Cameron lived with his great aunt. Cameron's great aunt was a loving, nurturing caregiver, and Cameron adored his great aunt's cooking. When Cameron's great aunt passed away a year and a half ago, he ended up in foster care because there was no other family able to care for him. The loss of his great aunt was devastating, and for a long time, Cameron shut down and did not speak with anyone. Gradually, Cameron re-focused on his future, getting a job, and working hard at school. He turned 18 this year, but decided to stay in the foster care system until the age of 21, to have some additional support as he prepares for his future. Recently, Cameron's mother also passed away, and Cameron now finds himself facing his first Christmas without any family. He lives in a group home for young adults, and will spend his holidays there. He dreams of his great aunt's cooking this Christmas, admitting that he has become a picky eater as the food in his group home is nothing like what she used to make. Cameron loves to play basketball, but he bounced between homes so much during his later high school years that he was not able to be on a basketball team. He plays on the outdoor court at his group home in the warm weather months, and has a net in his room to keep shooting hoops during the winter.
