Lucilla, 10 years old, MO

Lucilla (Lucy) is a beautiful young girl who has been through so much in her life. Lucy came in to care in May of 2022 and has had minimal involvement with her parents since that date. Lucy came in to care behind in school, underweight, and constantly talked about how amazed she was that her placement provider cooked dinner every night. Lucy insisted on watching her aunt and uncle cook and do household tasks, like laundry, and eventually we realized she was trying to learn how to do it, so that if she didn’t live with them, she would be able to do it on her own. Lucy has never complained about these situations, never talks poorly about her mother, and always mentions that she loves her and misses her, even when her mother is not willing or able to set up visits or communication. Lucy has thrived since coming in to care, she is catching up in school, getting healthier physically, has made new friends, engaged in extracurricular activities, and never shows how sad she feels to anyone else. You would never know all that she has been through by talking with her, she has a beautiful smile and loves to socialize with anyone around.
