Amaru, 14 years old, CA

Amaru is a big fan of football and has faced many challenges in his life. He lives with ADHD and ASD and is receiving help from therapy, which has made him feel better and more in control. He spent some time in foster care because his mom had a hard time with substance abuse linked to domestic violence. The good news is that she has been sober for several years now and has welcomed Amaru back home. While things are improving, they still struggle with money, which makes it hard to afford basic needs like food and rent. Football is really important to Amaru. It brings him joy and makes him feel like he belongs. He’s working hard on his therapy and finding strength in his love for the game. Amaru is resilient and remains hopeful for a brighter future for himself and his mom.
