Dakota, 6 years old, MO
Dakota is a precious little girl in kinship care whose quiet strength and gentle presence leave a lasting impression on everyone she meets. Though she is nonverbal and lives with physical challenges, she communicates so much through her smiles, her eyes, and the joy she expresses in the simple things she loves most. Dakota finds pure delight in watching Moana and Frozen—her face lights up as the music plays and the characters she adores fill the screen. Those moments show the world just how much wonder and happiness live in her heart. Dakota attends weekly therapy sessions, where she works hard and shows incredible determination as she continues to grow and make progress. She also goes to school for two hours each week, a time that gives her opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with others in ways that support her development. While her journey looks different than most, Dakota’s sweetness, resilience, and ability to spread love without words make her truly remarkable. She is a child who reminds everyone around her that joy can be found in the simplest of moments and that strength doesn’t always need a voice to be heard.
