Gemma, 20 years old, NJ
Gemma entered foster care at age 10 after her mother struggled with substance use and later passed away from an overdose. She never knew her father's identity and faced abuse while living with a relative. Gemma moved between many foster homes. In her late teens, she found support at a group home, which helped her start healing. She graduated high school, enrolled in a vocational program, and became a medical technician. Now, she’s working part-time and studying for a degree in psychology to help others with similar experiences.
