CSULB - Guardian Scholars Program

Kaya is a senior in Botany at CSULB. She recently joined a Dr. Fisher’s research lab to further develop her skills in the field of botany to one day provide an affordable, natural solution to combat oil pollution around the world. While Kaya is very determined to help the natural world, she is also very passionate about helping her peers at Guardian Scholars. Kaya became a Guardian Scholars Ambassador this semester and has gone above and beyond to provide financial, personal, and academic assistance to other students. She even organized a workshop to aid students with class registration, providing tips and insider information on how to utilize multiple CSULB services to maximize schedules. At some point in her career, Kaya wants to work with transitioning foster youth as an academic or financial counselor to provide the support she was given in hopes of getting the next generation further than she did.

Kaya is heartbroken that she lost her sunglasses. Not just any sunglasses, but the same frame as the ones her dad gave her before his untimely passing. Kaya has a hard time seeing with the sun right into her eyes ever since her last pair were stolen. With four siblings, it is hard for Kaya to find items of her dads to claim for herself. These sunglasses will help with feeling emotionally connected with her dad again as well as providing all the benefits the sunglasses have on their own.

"Thank you so much for fulfilling my wish for the Maui Jims! They are just like I remember them, and I cannot wait to look stylish and have that extra protection while doing activities in the sun. Seeing the sunglasses brought me to tears and I am super grateful. Thank you again and God bless you!"
