Meta Quest for Jimmy to use virtual reality as an occasional escape
Jimmy, 19 years old
Wish submitted by:
Bringing Families TogetherJimmy is autistic, doesn't speak much except when he really needs something, and when he does use his voice he is very direct. "Brevity is the soul of wit" as Shakespeare once wrote. Jimmy loves his routine, which includes sometimes escaping into virtual reality. Ever since he tried on an Occulus Quest at a best buy with his new legal guardian two months ago, he has been hinting that he wants one. He points to it incessantly in any print or TV ad he sees, he says "Quest" during car rides, and he'll even pretend like he is playing Beat Saber in his room. Sometimes he plays it at the dinner table or at school when he's supposed to be sitting still.

Sometimes he plays it at the dinner table or at school when he's supposed to be sitting still. Because he can't talk or communicate well, Jimmy often feels helpless. When he's in his virtual world, he has total control. He is learning how to use different apps to learn new words and is able to travel to places he likely will never get to go to in person. He can be a hero in all of his favorite games. His guardians want to try to do whatever they can to keep him calm and in routine because when things don't go as planned, Jimmy can get really emotional.
