CSULB - Guardian Scholars ProgramKaya is a senior in Botany at CSULB. She recently joined a Dr. Fisher’s research lab to further develop her skills in the field of botany to one day provide an affordable, natural solution to combat oil pollution around the world. While Kaya is very determined to help the natural world, she is also very passionate about helping her peers at Guardian Scholars. Kaya became a Guardian Scholars Ambassador this semester and has gone above and beyond to provide financial, personal, and academic assistance to other students. She even organized a workshop to aid students with class registration, providing tips and insider information on how to utilize multiple CSULB services to maximize schedules. At some point in her career, Kaya wants to work with transitioning foster youth as an academic or financial counselor to provide the support she was given in hopes of getting the next generation further than she did.
Kaya needs a new front windshield. While driving to school one day, she ended up behind a truck that somehow kicked up some asphalt, leaving a nasty crack right in the middle of her windshield. Although she can still see through it, the crack makes her uneasy, especially since she has to make that 25-mile commute six times a week. Given her tight budget, with rent, gas, and food taking up most of her money, she’s really hoping to find a way to afford a new windshield.
