Tori has always felt like she’s missing out on what other kids enjoy, and it’s really taken a toll on her self-esteem. One of the things she was genuinely excited about was getting braces. While she's been making great strides in other areas of her life to boost her confidence, having a smile she's proud of has always been something she was excited about. So when her parents shared the exciting news that they would be paying for her braces, Tori could hardly believe it. She quickly made an appointment and soon enough, she had the braces she’d always wanted.
However, things took a tough turn when she re-entered foster care, and suddenly, the promise of her parents paying for her braces was no longer a reality. Her new foster family just couldn't afford them, and Tori didn't qualify for Medicaid to help cover the costs. With the braces already on, Tori doesn't qualify for many other programs so her advocate came to One Simple WIsh to help.
Tori is 16 years old and lives in MO
Tori's life has been really tough. She grew up in a chaotic environment filled with domestic violence, poverty, and drugs, facing a lot of traumas along the way. It's been a struggle for her, often moving in and out of care due to behavioral challenges. She's lived in different places, including a residential facility and juvenile detention. Unfortunately, many adults in her life have grown frustrated with her, often without truly understanding what she's been through. But despite all of this, Tori stands out. Her advocate has watched her grow and show incredible resilience, and it's clear how hard she has worked to move forward. She’s got a job now and takes pride in earning her own money. Still, she often feels the weight of not having had the same opportunities as other kids, which has really impacted her self-esteem. But through it all, Tori keeps pushing ahead, determined to thrive.
