Josue spent ten years in the foster care system, and his journey through foster care was filled with challenges, especially the feeling of not belonging. He often felt more like a guest than a part of the family, but found comfort in small things, such as talking to his computer’s voice assistant. Everything changed when he started college at Cal Poly Pomona and found a supportive community through the Renaissance Scholars program. That connection helped him grow, heal, and ultimately thrive. Despite facing trauma and setbacks, including academic struggles and self-doubt, he persevered. With the help of mentors and support programs, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. Technology and online exploration became his outlet, sparking curiosity and a sense of purpose.

Josue wishes for a Kindle Scribe tablet to help him succeed in his programming class. He wants to be able to take handwritten notes and read textbooks digitally. A tablet would support his learning, especially in challenging subjects like object-oriented programming. Having this tool would boost his confidence and help him stay on track toward earning his professional certificate.
