Michaela, who often goes by Mehaa, spent five years in foster care. Throughout this time, she faced many challenges, including the risk of not graduating from high school due to frequent relocations and mishandled transcripts. Despite this, she stayed focused and ultimately graduated a year early. Her experience in foster care was difficult, especially not being able to live with family or feeling excluded during holidays. However, she found comfort in writing poetry, connecting with foster siblings, and holding onto hope. Looking ahead with determination, she envisions herself in five years pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology or Social Work, continuing her advocacy work, and providing a stable, loving home for her daughter.

Michaela grew up in the foster care system and feels a sense of sadness for the holidays and family gatherings she missed. As she prepares to move into her first two-bedroom apartment with her daughter, she hopes to create a cozy environment where they can host loved ones during the holidays. Michaela wants to create happy memories for her daughter that she didn’t have growing up. A fireplace TV stand would be the perfect addition to help complete the warm and welcoming space she envisions for her family and friends.
