Children's InstituteSundiata is a bright and resilient child who was recently diagnosed with Autism. He is non-verbal, a challenge shaped in part by early neglect, yet he continues to show strength and perseverance. After spending two years in foster care while his mother worked tirelessly to regain custody, and another year and a half experiencing homelessness as his mother sought safety from an abusive relationship, Sundiata and his family are now finally housed in their own apartment. Today, Sundiata is connected with the Regional Center, and his mother is actively seeking IHSS services and SSI to better support his developmental and daily needs. Despite the hardships he has faced, Sundiata finds joy in watching Ms. Rachel on YouTube and the show Bluey, which brings him comfort and happiness. Alongside his mother and sister, Sundiata is building a more stable and nurturing environment where he can continue to grow and thrive.
Sunny would benefit greatly from interactive read-along books that support his learning and help him keep pace with his age group. As a non-verbal child with Autism, these books provide an engaging way to strengthen his understanding and communication skills. This gift would not only boost Sunny’s educational growth and knowledge but also ease the financial burden on his mother, ensuring he has the tools he needs to thrive.
