James was in foster care twice. Between 3-7 and 13-21 when he finally aged out. During the 6 years between placements, he was adopted to an extremely abusive home where he was physically, mentally, and sexually abused without anyone coming to his rescue. After reentering care James learned how to use his story to effect change within the child welfare system, and he has made that his mission ever since. When he is not advocating he enjoys hanging out and going fishing. After 10 years of being a voice for Illinois current and former youth in care James is proud to say that he has assisted in passing 35 different laws effecting Illinois Child Welfare system.
