Belle entered foster care at the age of 2. She was with a wonderful foster family for a few months. Around her 3rd birthday, Belle and her two siblings were matched with a young pre-adoptive family. Within 3 months of being placed with them, Belle's pre-adoptive father severely beat Belle, a healthy 3-year-old, so badly over the course of 48 hours it's a miracle she survived. As a result, she suffered a traumatic brain injury. She was left a prisoner of her own body. Belle doesn't have any control over any of her limbs. Absolutely no voluntary movements. However, this never stopped Belle from loving hard. Once you gain her trust, she is quite the character. Her laugh will have you rolling; it's so contagious. Belle's brain injury left her severely delayed, but she knows everything you are saying and knows what she wants and when she wants it. Even though she's nonverbal, you can most definitely tell what she is saying!
