Annika, 22 years old, CA

Annika is majoring in Family Studies and Human Development, with a double minor in Counseling and Nonprofit Management. She spends much of her time studying, enjoying nature, exercising at the gym, doing puzzles, and going out with friends. She also loves music and doing homework in quiet spaces. As a first-generation student, she is committed to excelling in her education while balancing part-time work, her personal well-being, and two jobs to help support herself through school. She is also deeply involved in her community. She actively volunteers with her sorority and works with local schools, giving back to others while building leadership skills and meaningful connections. Growing up in foster care taught her resilience and adaptability. Moving through multiple placements made it challenging to have consistent access to personal belongings or a quiet space to focus. In college, those challenges still echo as studying in busy environments or living in shared spaces often makes it difficult to concentrate and find calm moments to recharge.
