Mikal, 14 years old, NC

Mikal has been in custody with his three sisters for several years. He is a good big brother to his sisters and is luckily now placed in a home with all of them together. He is a giving type of brother and lets his sisters wear and keep his hoodies constantly. He says he would rather them be warm then him. His big struggle is feeling responsible for his siblings and his new foster parents are working hard to earn his trust that they can take care of his sisters and let him be a kid. He loves playing on his VR and has recently learned how to make breakfast items like pancakes and French toast with his new foster mom. We think he might be a budding "foodie" as he has expressed an interest in learning how to make dinner. He has an agreement with his foster mom that he will be responsible for one dinner a week if everyone else cleans up afterwards! He is excited to try having breakfast for dinner.
