Jasmine, 18 years old, CA

Jasmine is a Freshman at Sacramento State, majoring in Health Science, and is an active member of the Guardian Scholars Program. She is known for her quiet determination and her love for learning, often spending her afternoons tucked away in the campus library or her favorite stop, Starbucks. In her free time, she enjoys working out in the Sac State gym and watching her favorite shows on Netflix. Jasmine entered foster care at 5 years old, an age when most children are still learning to feel safe in the world. Growing up in a place where I wasn’t familiar, she often felt different from her classmates, especially when she saw how many of them had the support of their parents. While other students could count on a stable home life, Jasmine had to learn how to navigate challenging environments. These early hardships pushed her to become resilient, independent, and incredibly driven. Now, as a college student far from her hometown, Jasmine strives to excel academically and prepare for her long-term career goals. With everything she has overcome, she hopes to be a role model for other foster youth, showing them that their beginnings do not determine their destiny.
