Maria entered foster care at the age of 11, along with her siblings, and was placed with her grandmother and aunt. Adjusting to this new situation was challenging due to a language barrier and years of instability, which had set her back in school. However, with the support of mentors and counselors, she developed resilience, humility, and empathy. Maria is proud to have graduated from high school and is now continuing her education in college. Majoring in communications, she hopes to use media and journalism to advocate for foster youth. Ultimately, she aims to create a platform that connects them to valuable resources and support.
