A violent confrontation between Branson's mother and her live-in boyfriend resulted in Branson being removed from his family home when he was seven years old. Unfortunately, his mother still struggles with drug addiction, and his father was absent when Branson was an infant. Although Branson has an older half-brother and half-sister, they were adopted by a paternal relative out of state many years ago, so he has little interaction with them.
