Perris, 23 years old, TX

Perris is a dedicated mother and resilient individual, with past experience in the foster care system, who is currently working toward becoming financially independent while providing stability and support for her four children. As a separated military spouse and mother of four, including two children with special needs, she has developed exceptional resilience, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Her experiences as a small business owner, homeschooling mother, and part-time employee have helped her overcome challenges and continue pursuing her personal and professional goals. One of her greatest strengths is communication. Despite living with dyslexia, she has worked diligently to overcome challenges with written communication and has developed strong written and verbal communication skills. Her ability to communicate with empathy has also helped her teach her children and support their individual learning needs. She is also highly skilled in time management, balancing her children's medical and educational needs, maintaining a household, and working while ensuring her children continue to thrive and reach milestones that were once thought to be out of their reach. Her hobbies and interests center around learning, science, and spending meaningful time with her children. She enjoys exploring the world with them through nature walks, cooking, and hands-on science experiments. She is passionate about understanding her children's unique needs and perspectives and finding creative ways to help them experience and learn about the world. Education and science are two of her greatest passions. She is only four classes away from completing her degree in education and hopes to continue fostering a love of learning and science among children and young adults. Her long-term goal is to become a professor and develop community programs that increase awareness of educational opportunities, particularly for individuals in underserved communities. She is especially passionate about learning, gaining access to new information, and exploring how the educational system can become more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of individuals. What makes her unique is her curiosity and intentional approach to building healthy, meaningful relationships. She believes in understanding others and investing time in helping people feel supported and valued. As the mother of two children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, she has become even more intentional about encouraging curiosity, social awareness, and understanding. She hopes to use her personal experiences, education, and passion for science to make a positive difference in the lives of her children and others in her community.
