Tammy, 15 years old, NE

Tammy has spent much of her life navigating the unpredictable waters of uncertainty. After enduring years in the foster care system, she finally found the love and stability she longed for when her foster parents adopted her last year, along with two-year-old twins. Together, they became a permanent family. However, this past year has thrown unexpected financial hurdles their way. With her mom recently losing her job, her dad is now the sole provider. Tammy, ever considerate, prioritizes the needs of her young siblings, understanding that they require more attention and care. She is determined not to add to her parents’ financial burden. As she prepares to start 10th grade at a new high school this fall, Tammy faces another challenge: she lacks the confidence-boosting wardrobe she needs to make a positive impression. Starting anew is daunting, and having a few new outfits would empower her to embrace this transition with self-assurance. In her efforts to support her family, Tammy has been actively applying for fast-food jobs in her area. Her eagerness to work and contribute financially is commendable, yet securing employment at her age proves to be a formidable task.
