Brielle (whom we affectionately call Grandma) came to LifeTies a few years ago after having spent many years in foster and adoptive care, and in residential treatment. She quickly earned her nickname "Grandma" because she was so nurturing, loving and affectionate with both staff and her peers. Astute, curious, inquisitive and always in the know. That was our Brielle. She lived in the home for about two years while engaging in intensive trauma treatment which had a significant impact on her day to day functioning. She struggled to work through such a painful past of disappointments and abandonment; and an uncertain future. During her treatment program she successfully graduated from high school; got her first job, and became her own catalyst for change. Before her successful discharge she was facilitating her own treatment meetings, managing her own schedule, (and ours, if we let her :-), and actively engaging with biological and adoptive family members in healthy ways---offering forgiveness for past hurt. Her intention has been to live a full life without resentment and pain... and that's what she's doing. She is now a mom of 2 and working at a local college to care for her children. Having a car can be life-changing for her; as it would provide reliable means for taking her two littles to and from daycare; and navigating the community to meet her family's needs. There are so many young people who are deserving for sure... We appreciate your consideration of Brielle.
