Carl is a very happy-go-lucky young man who loves comic books, music, fishing, and drawing. He has some special needs and was recently removed from his home. Carl was not placed with his younger siblings because he needs more assistance with his daily living functions. He has not allowed his placement in foster care to stop his desire to work hard in school so that he can graduate on time. Carl does not allow his disability to stop his enjoyment of life. He loves visiting with his siblings every weekend and always has pictures for them to take back of his drawings.

Carl will turn 17 years old soon and has recently been moved to a new foster home. He is adjusting well to his new placement, but he misses his old friends. To celebrate his birthday, Carl plans to invite some of his old friends to his favorite restaurant. He has asked for a new pair of shoes to wear for the celebration, but his new placement cannot afford to buy them. Receiving the shoes in time for his birthday would make him extremely happy.
