A Lego Technic car to reward Ryan for working hard in school to improve his grades and behavior

Ryan, 13 years old

Wish submitted by:

NE DHHS - Madison County

Ryan lost his biological parents due to neglect as a young child and later his adoptive parents relinquished their parental rights, leaving Ryan without a family for a second time. Ryan initially demonstrated some big feelings and behaviors in foster care but his behaviors in Nebraska were nothing short of stellar the last year and a half, prior to his move to Illinois. Ryan would frequently talk about being a leader and showing other kids that your past does not have to dictate your future. Ryan fell into some old patterns initially when school started, following his move, but has worked hard to turn both his school behaviors and grades around. Ryan has loved reconnecting with healthy members of his biological family and learning more about where he came from. There is no doubt that Ryan will go far in life!

Ryan was placed with his biological grandfather in Illinois in July 2024 after three years in foster care in Nebraska. Ryan is an extremely bright youth who has shown great resilience in foster care. Although the move to Illinois has had its ups and downs, Ryan has worked hard to get himself back on track. Quiet moments and building things help Ryan forget any challenges of the day and provide him with a sense of accomplishment and pride. A Lego Technic car will provide hours of entertainment and will remind Ryan how much he is loved and valued.

"Thank you for your kind words. I will share these with Ryan when I travel from Nebraska to Illinois next week to give him this gift. Ryan will be very excited to receive this gift and most importantly the time together with his grandfather to build this car will be invaluable to both of them. Thank you and may God bless you and your family. "
