An iPad for Genevieve, who wishes to find a job
Genevieve, 17 years old
Wish submitted by:
CASA of Passaic and Union Counties (NJ)Although still a teenager, Genevieve has lived through more than a lifetime of adversity already. With parents and extended family members who have struggled for years with substance abuse, Genevieve has been in and out of the child welfare system several times. Despite her family's difficulties with substance abuse, Genevieve has always felt loved and supported by her family, and she has learned to share love and caring with others. Genevieve's younger siblings are also in foster care with her, and although she is grateful that her siblings are safe, it pains her greatly to watch them being raised by strangers. She often struggles with depression and anxiety. Genevieve is incredibly bright and earns A's, but depression and worry about her family have made it very hard for her to focus on her homework, and her grades have suffered. She is searching for employment, with hopes of earning an income and preparing for her future.
Genevieve wants to search for jobs online, fill out job applications, and complete her school assignments on Google Classroom more easily. However, accomplishing these tasks is challenging without an iPad. For weeks, she has wished for her own iPad to help her prepare for her future. Since she hasn't had her first job yet to finance such a purchase, and because her family members are unable to buy one for her, Genevieve is hoping her wish will be granted. Having an iPad and securing a job will help her take her first step toward independence.
