Alex uses the pronouns “they/their” and identifies as non-binary. Due to past trauma and multiple foster placements, they have developed a lack of trust in others. Alex has weekly visits with their parents and some siblings. At the foster home, they generally prefer to spend time alone in their bedroom rather than socialize with the foster parents. If Alex feels that someone is probing for information, they tend to shut down; however, there are times when they open up and engage in extensive conversations with others. Alex has mentioned that they feel “different” from other children their age because of their unique sense of style.

Alex has a deep passion for music, having written and composed songs as well as sung and played the guitar. Currently, Alex does not have access to a guitar, which limits their ability to express emotions and feelings that are often difficult to articulate verbally. Having a guitar would provide a valuable outlet for Alex, allowing them to express those hidden and suppressed emotions in a meaningful way.
