Beatriz, 18 years old

Voices for Children - Riverside

Beatriz's journey has been marked by challenges, including her most recent removal from a legal guardian who chose not to provide the permanency she longed for. Despite the hardship and trauma she has faced, Beatriz continues to show incredible resilience and strength. She is now thriving and excelling in school, a milestone that reflects her determination and hard work. With plans to attend a local community college and begin working soon, she is stepping boldly into her future, ready to build the life she deserves.

Beatriz is asking for a gift card to buy her own books, which are very important to her personally and for her education. After ten years in the foster care system, having books she can keep would give her a sense of stability and ownership. Books will also help her improve her reading and critical thinking skills, provide emotional support, and allow her to explore new ideas, boosting her confidence as she works towards her educational and personal goals.

"Beatriz: As an avid reader myself, I can appreciate your interest in exploring a local book shop and selecting something new. Hope you continue to enjoy reading as much as I do. Make sure you also visit your local library and get yourself a library card - I tend to only read books once so, for me, the library is a great free option. Enjoy!"
