Although he is shy and has difficulty with interpersonal relationships, he gets along well with his mother and is helpful around the house.
Dale is seeking a fishing pole because it's a crucial tool in managing his anxiety and depression. He went fishing for the first time with his mentor, initially expecting to dislike the experience. To his surprise, he found it to be calming and centering. Now, he is filled with excitement at the prospect of going fishing more often with his mentor.
