A portable washer for Laylah to keep up with her baby's laundry

Laylah, 18 years old, OR

Laylah has spent much of her life in and out of foster care, living in several different homes. Most recently, she lived with her aunt, working on rebuilding a trusting relationship with her after experiencing significant trauma within her family during her early years. At the age of 16, Laylah became pregnant. When she decided to keep her baby, most of her family support quickly dwindled, leaving her facing the options of staying in youth shelters, experiencing homelessness, or remaining in unsafe living situations. Fortunately, with the help of Child Welfare, Laylah received a voucher at 17 years old, allowing her to move into her very first apartment!

Laylah has officially settled into her first apartment with her infant son, marking an exciting new chapter in her life. However, she faces a significant challenge: her unit doesn’t have a washer, and finding the funds or an endless supply of quarters for laundry is far from easy. With the frequent need to wash her son's clothes, sheets, and various other necessities, having a portable washer would make a world of difference. It would lighten her load as a young, single mother and help her manage her new responsibilities with greater ease.
