Washington County Community ServicesRae has endured a profoundly difficult life journey. After several transitions, she was finally placed in a family home where she is now thriving. She has her own room, which she’s proudly decorated, and is part of a large and loving family of eight. At school, she discovered a passion for pottery and has created beautiful, expressive pieces. She also enjoys crocheting, sewing, and reading. Looking toward her future, she plans to attend cosmetology school while continuing to create pottery as a personal and artistic outlet.
For Rae, pottery is so much more than a hobby; it’s a vital part of her life that helps her express her feelings and find calm amid the chaos. After enduring trauma and loss, she discovered that working with clay was instrumental in her healing process. The very first time she touched that cool, soft clay in art class, she felt something shift within her. It was as if, for the first time in a long while, her anxiety receded, even if just for a moment. Pottery has become her refuge, a place where she can transform her emotions and dreams into something tangible and beautiful. Although she’s often quiet and reserved in her everyday life, her creations speak volumes. They tell her story, showcase her strength, and reveal the gentle spirit within her. For Rae, owning a pottery wheel would be more than just having a tool; it would be a crucial part of her journey. It would help her continue shaping her identity and further support her healing process.
