San Diego Youth ServicesElijah is full of energy when he is with his closest friends and foster care workers. He is currently living in an extended foster care housing program, where he is learning to manage independent living. Elijah has faced trauma that has led to daily struggles with anxiety. By participating in therapy services, he has explored various coping skills to help him manage his anxiety. After a long journey of trying different techniques, he has found that playing musical instruments and using fidget tools are the most effective ways to cope.
Elijah's previous bed frame was made of wood, but it eventually broke, leaving him without the support he needs for his mattress. Since then, he has been sleeping on the floor because his current mattress is too thin to be used without a bed frame. This situation has made it even harder for him to get the rest he needs. As a young man entering his second year of community college, Elijah is doing everything he can to focus on his education and build a stable future for himself. Soon, he will age out of the foster care system and move into his very first apartment—a place he can truly call his own. A sturdy metal bed frame would not only provide him with the comfort and support he is currently missing, but it would also be a lasting item he can take with him as he embarks on this next stage of independence.
