During the COVID-19 pandemic, she endured neglect and unsafe living conditions that led to serious struggles, including an eating disorder. She was placed in emergency housing, then separated from her brother and sent to live with different relatives, where her needs were often overlooked. From there, she cycled through a shelter and a group home, staying quiet and resilient until she graduated high school. Now she carries the lessons of resilience, survival, and perseverance with her while working to build a better future.

During her middle school years, Kyra faced bullying, particularly regarding her hygiene. This experience left her feeling insecure and overly preoccupied with how she smelled.
