A large Elmo toy for Duane who didn't have many toys before coming into care
Duane, 13 years old, NE | 1 DAY WAITING

Department of Health and Human Services- NebraskaDuane is a young man with developmental disabilities. He has been in foster care for over a year and a half. Both of his parents also have developmental disabilities and were unable to raise him appropriately. Unfortunately, his mother passed away suddenly in September, and his father moved to California. Currently, his only relative is his 90-year-old grandmother. Duane is a fun, polite, and very helpful young man. He has a beautiful smile and enjoys Mickey Mouse, playing on his tablet, and spending time with his grandmother. He now lives in a special home with a wonderful caregiver who loves him and encourages him to be as independent as possible. Despite having faced many serious health issues during his life, Duane always manages to bounce back with a smile.
Duane has not had many toys growing up; in fact, he didn't have much of anything. When asked about his wish, a bright smile lit up his face. He looked at me with hope and excitement and said he wanted a "Big Elmo!" His reaction reminded me just how simple yet powerful a wish can be.
