Ishmael came to the department's attention due to neglect. He is currently participating in weekly therapy sessions, where he is working on coping skills related to anxiety and expressing his feelings. Due to past trauma, Ishmael has had difficulty trusting adults. He is also adjusting to his new placement. Ishmael has a passion for football and participates in both football and baseball. His dream is to become a professional football player when he grows up. He is very competitive and enjoys watching football and other sports with his current caregiver. He has two other siblings with whom he does not currently reside. However, they are not together in the same home. They can see one another periodically throughout the month. The separation has been difficult, and he frequently expresses how much he misses them.

This Christmas Ish is asking for a pair of Beats headphones. His current headphones are broken- the cord is ripped, and only one side works. Making it difficult for him to fully enjoy something that brings him comfort. Having his own working headphones would help him feel included as his friends at school have some. At home, headphones are important to him as he enjoys listening to music in his room because it allows him to relax without disturbing anyone else in the home. Music is more than entertainment for him, it's his safe space. After the loss of his mother, music has become one of the ways he copes with his emotions. Listening to his favorite songs helps him calm his thoughts, process his feelings, and find moments of comfort when things feel overwhelming. A pair of Beats headphones would give him comfort and a healthy way to cope with loss, all while supporting his emotional well-being.
